Your Weekly Mindfulness

First up for your weekly mindfulness activity: go on a listening walk.

Listening Walk

This is simple, take a few minutes to go on a walk around your neighborhood. Take note of all the different sounds you hear. You might notice the noise from street traffic, birds in the trees, people talking etc. You don't have to spend a lot of time with each noise, but instead let the noises flow around you.

That's it. Seriously.

If you want, you can do this with your kids too. Here's a great book about going on a listening walk aptly titled The Listening Walk. You can read it before you head out and then take a walk where you help them observe the noises of their environment without talking. Of course, not talking can be tough for anyone, so don't fret if you don't make it around the block without saying a few words.
